Privacy Policy
This page explains how URGE processes personal data and how we apply GDPR principles such as data minimization, purpose limitation, and storage limitation.
Data controller
URGE is provided by the USN University Library. For all privacy-related questions, requests, or complaints, contact: forskningsdata@usn.no.
What we process
- Form fields that you enter to generate README/JSON outputs (for example name, institution, email, ORCID, DOI-related metadata).
- Technical request metadata required to run the service securely (for example endpoint, method, and minimized diagnostic events).
- Aggregated and non-identifying service statistics such as page views and button trigger counts.
Why we process personal data
- To provide the requested service (generate documentation outputs and fetch requested metadata).
- To protect service integrity and diagnose technical problems.
- To operate and improve the service using aggregated usage metrics.
Legal basis (GDPR Article 6)
- Article 6(1)(b): processing necessary to provide the requested service functions.
- Article 6(1)(f): legitimate interest in security, abuse prevention, and service reliability.
Storage and retention
Data entered in the main form is not stored permanently as a user profile or permanent record. Temporary session data is used to complete the requested operation and is short-lived. Aggregated counters are retained without direct personal identifiers.
Third-party recipients
URGE connects to external services only when you request that action, including Dataverse and ORCID. These providers process requests under their own privacy policies and terms.
International transfers
Depending on the selected data source or metadata provider, requests may be processed outside the EEA. When this occurs, processing is governed by the recipient service's legal framework and safeguards.
Your rights under GDPR
- Right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and (where applicable) data portability.
- Right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
- Right to contact us directly for a privacy request: forskningsdata@usn.no.
Security measures
URGE applies transport and browser security controls, minimizes stored data, and avoids logging direct secrets such as API tokens.
